Summary
This publication does not contain a detailed transcript of the
contents from the registers of St. Peter's Church, Malacca. Instead,
it is the intention of the authors to provide details pertaining the
condition of each of the registers, as well as to tabulate a list of
those registers and where it is kept. These primary records are of
great historical importance and offer a unique insight into the
social and cultural history of the Catholic community of Malacca,
including the Portuguese Eurasian community there.
Also included is a brief history of St. Peter's Church, Malacca,
which is renowned as the oldest functioning Roman Catholic church in
Malaysia. Although it is said that the building was built in the
year 1710, during Malacca's Dutch era, this book provides evidence
that the current church building probably does not go back to that
year.
